Message The fin area between the plates is many times greater than the front and rear surfaces, and this is where the majority of the conduction heat transfer takes place. As long as the painter doesn't get too heavy handed and doesn't try to work paint into the fins it looks like this isn't as bad an idea as I initially thought.
